After a whiff of our wine

Organisers of the 2013 Nelson International Aromatics Symposium say the event will go ahead next weekend, despite yesterday’s devastating fire at the Moutere Hills Community Centre where the event is always held.

The Nelson Wineart event has been held at the Moutere Hills Community Centre since 2007 and organisers say it was the ideal venue to showcase premium Nelson wines and introduce wine lovers to international aromatic varieties.

Symposium Chairman Patrick Stowe, of Rimu Grove Winery, said the organising committee was devastated to hear the news of yesterday’s fire. Arrangements were swiftly made to find an alternative location for the symposium which starts on Friday 1 February. It will now be held at Seifried Estates.

Mr Stowe said wine media and delegates from all over the world will be attending the two day event. Highlights include top aromatic wines from Austria and throughout New Zealand.

Some tickets to the event, which is open to the general public, are still available through the Wineart website.

“This fire has been a hiccup for us, but a tragedy for the Moutere community. We have returned to that venue for all of our events because it is a spectacular location to showcase our wines and region to an international audience.

“We are all hopeful the centre can be rebuilt quickly and we will certainly be back there for our events in future,” he said.
