Inner city shopping in the Nelson region is made easy with over 320 shops located within the central city hub and most within easy walking distance.

Local designers and international chain stores offer a great fix of retail therapy from fashion boutiques, family retail stores, jewellery, specialty shops, souvenir outlets, galleries and our famous Saturday Market.

Well known New Zealand designers and labels are carried by a variety of stores and a collection of thrift and recycled goods stores can be found in the city, providing an eclectic mix of quality shopping to be enjoyed over the holiday season.

With award winning cafés and restaurants lining Nelson’s popular fashion strips, you can put your feet up and enjoy lunch in the sun in between stores.

Visit the Saturday market for a colourful array of local arts, crafts, fashion, jewellery, sculpture, fresh produce, flowers and plants from 8am-1pm in Montgomery Square.

Trading hours for most stores are Monday to Friday from 9am till 5.30pm and Saturday from 10am till 2pm. Some national chain stores are open till 5.30 on Saturday and many also open Sunday.

Most stores can be found in and around Trafalgar St, Bridge St and Hardy St’s Fashion Island and convenient car parking is available throughout the city.

Check out Richmond too where the top of the south’s biggest mall is and another great range of local retailers.
