Gentle jog for festive runners

Dozens of Santa Claus-clad runners made their way from town to the beach on Sunday for the annual Jingle Bells Jog and Santa Walk.

The event, held by Nelson Events, is a charity day with all of the proceeds going to the Nelson branch of the Heart Foundation. The 4.7km race was open to joggers, walkers, skaters and scooters with everyone being encouraged to wear Christmas costumes or carry a ringing bell. There were prizes for the most ringing bells, best costume, best themed family and a special award for the best dressed dog. There was plenty of tooting as drivers passed the trail of Santas around Rocks Rd with many of them observing the unique event. Organiser Averil West was “really happy” with the turnout and highlighted the fact that more people had dressed up this year.
