Budding romance writers given a chance to bloom

The Nelson Romance Writers are hoping to uncover some hidden talent with their Romance Short Story Competition opening next week.

Open to unpublished writers over the age of 18, the competition is themed ‘new beginnings’, with a 1000 word limit on entries.

“Everyone, whether they’re 18 or 80, has experienced some kind of love or heartache. Use these feelings in your writing,” says Annika Ohlson-Smith of the Nelson Romance Writers.

Entry costs $10, with an additional $10 to receive feedback on your work. The top three stories receive a gift basket of romantic goodies, with first place scoring a year’s membership to Romance Writers NZ, which has chapters all over the country and many published members.

The final judge is successful author Sue MacKay.

Email [email protected] for more information or for an entry form. The competition is open nationwide, entries close October 1.
