Jacks Red marched to the top of the table in Grade 1 (although sitting second on goal differential) when it beat Prices Pharmacy Black 30-25 on Saturday.
Although Jacks had its noses in front throughout the game, its players did not feel in control as Prices were always there breathing down their necks.
Jacks was steady through court, more controlled and made fewer unforced errors than its counterparts. Jacks goal shoot, Moira Raumati was accuracy personified when she turned to face the goal to put the shot up. Moira was well supported by goal attack, Ange Scoble who was happy to play a feeding role. The shooters received superb service from the feeders – Kirsten Powick and Robyn Leonard, who delivered some precision ball.
Prices defence toiled for the entirety, circle defenders Ebony Barrett and Carol Heiford were powerful rebounders and were useful in bringing the ball through from the back line. Carol read the play well and got up for some great ball.
Miranda Hart-Tava made her usual solid contribution, she made good decisions and was a useful link through court. Goal shoot, Jess Hart slotted some great shots when needed.
Prices coach, Tom Alesana said although they were down by 11 at one stage he was pleased with how his charges fought back and did not give up.
Two of their players were unavailable for Saturday’s game, their timing was off and they did throw away ball however their team defence did keep them in the game.
Prices Black has steadily improved throughout the season and Tom is happy that they are sitting third on the table, which is a good place going into the championship round. There is still work to do, however he believes his girls are up for the task.
