More than 1000 budding athletes descended onto Tahunanui Beach on Sunday to take part in the Weet Bix Kids TRYathlon.

Among them were participants Anatori Anderson and Cass Maitland who successfully completed all three sections of the event.

The smiling girls had just received their medals and were able to cool off under the water-misting arch.

“It was really fun and really exhausting.”

It was a brilliant day out for all the family, with sunshine, music and a variety of food stands.

The event saw a huge turnout of volunteers. One volunteer, Sam Langford, said she loved seeing the kids get so excited about doing the TRYathlon.

“It’s great to help the community and to get involved.”

There was huge support from families on the side lines excitedly spurring on their young Kiwis with banners and huge cheers.

Travelling from Picton, Lora Crapper said the event “was amazing and the support crew had been fantastic”.
