Acclaimed performer Ali Harper will bring Burt Bacharach’s hit songs to life in Nelson this weekend.

‘The Look Of Love’ will showcase the Grammy award winner’s extensive collection, including” Close To You, Alfie, That’s What Friends Are For, Walk On By, Anyone Who Had A Heart and What The World Needs Now.

Ali says when she was teasing the idea of a Burt Bacharach show, she could see people’s eyes light up.

“It became clear that providing a show in such restless times is essential in taking audiences to that happy, sweet place of yesteryear. Music is so powerful for evoking feelings of nostalgia.”

The show captures the intimate Manhattan cabaret club vibe and will transport you back through the ages, from the 1950s to the 1980s, celebrating a long line of Bacharach muses, from Marlene Dietrich, Dusty Springfield, Dionne Warwick to Aretha Franklin and Cilla Black.

Ali says she and musical director Tom Rainey were in awe all over again when rediscovering Bacharach’s music.

“Burt’s melodies are utterly gorgeous, timeless and abundantly beautiful whether they are about heartache or hope.”

‘The Look Of Love’ is on Saturday 14 March at 7:30pm at the Theatre Royal. Tickets are available from www.ticketrocket.co.nz or the theatre box office.
