The Nelson region looks like it will shrug off a few days of wet weather just in time for Christmas.

MetService meteorologist Rob Kerr says that there a complex low system that will be affecting the region this week, bringing with it some showers.

That will continue over the weekend but there was more uncertainty about where the low-pressure system would go.

“As we get into Monday that ridge will come and bring a lovely day for Nelson.”

Although there is a lot of weather between now and Santa’s arrival, looking ahead to Christmas Day, the forecast for the South Island looks promising, with westerlies bringing a bit of cloud and showers to the west, and warm, dry winds to the east.

On Tuesday, Christmas Day, the sun will be shining.

“Much of the country should have a good day. So the Christmas period looks to be getting off to a good start.”
