The Nelson sky will be lit up next weekend for the annual lantern celebration at the Centre of New Zealand.

Locals will let lanterns loose from the hilltop as they celebrate the wonders the night sky possesses.

Seven-year-old Ashdyn McDowell attended a lantern-making workshop with mother Karyn on Saturday in preparation for the celebration.

Karyn says taking time to get your children working with their hands is crucial in today’s modern world.

“I definitely appreciate the more interpersonal touch of the workshops, we could learn this online but it’s just not the same as being here.”

Karyn says the workshops help “nurture that inner creative spirit which is very special.”

“We all get so busy and just need to take the time to slow down and enjoy things like this.”
Locals are invited to attend lantern making workshop this Saturday at Community Art Works from 10am.

A four-hour workshop, attendees will work with skilled craftspeople to create a very special lantern to bring to this year’s Lantern Celebration. Numbers limited, early booking recommended.
