FC Nelson smashed ten goals past Wakefield to emphatically claim the Nelson Bays Football first division title on Saturday.
The game was moved from FC Nelson’s home ground of Guppy Park, which was deemed “unplayable” due to recent rain, to the Wakefield Domain.
That move looked to have helped the underdog Wakefield side which started the game strong and even had a penalty opportunity.
But FC Nelson is full of classy players with plenty of experience and it didn’t take long for that to show.
Taking a 3-0 lead into the half time break, FC Nelson coach Paul Brydon says he was happy with how his team was performing.
“We just had to be patient and keep playing. Wakefield started well but once we had three I was pretty happy with where we were.”
The second half turned into a rout, but Paul says the win was still sweet.
“To come back the way we did. I always thought it was possible and it’s great for the club.”
