A dominate final quarter has powered Jacks OPD into Saturday’s Nelson Netball club netball final.

Jacks beat Richmond Glass 54-38 at Saxton Stadium tonight, but the game was tighter for large periods than the final score-line suggests.

Jacks were far superior in the first quarter shooting out to a 24-12 lead. But Richmond owned the second quarter fighting its way back into the game and cutting Jacks lead to 26-21 at half time.

Jacks looked to pull away several times in the third quarter but Richmond held on every time and were down 39-34 at the final break of the game.

Then the Jacks surge began. Twelve unanswered goals at the start of the final quarter from Jacks blew the game apart.

Jacks coach Robyn Leonard said after the game that her side needs to be more consistent in the final.

“It was a hell of a first quarter and a hell of a final quarter, the other two were pretty shabby, but they stepped up.

“When we started to punch onto the ball we started to take control. We need to keep doing it for 60 minutes.”

She says this Saturday’s final will be a huge occasion for her side.

“The last two times we’ve met them [Prices] in the final we’ve lost so it would be really nice to get the win and really nice for the girls.”
