Richmond Foxes coach John Slotemaker was a little grumpy after his side won the Nelson Bays Football first division women’s league on Saturday, “I don’t think we played at our best today, I think the pressure of having to win the last game made them not play as well. It was very frustrating.”

Richmond had to win the game to win the title but went down to Waimea College 1-0 mid-way through the second half.

The Foxes rallied with a goal to Rhea Hopkinson before a late winner to Jimi Slotemaker. John says, despite his displeasure at the way they won, he was proud of his team.

“They’ve done really well and improved as the season went on. They train well so I’m really pleased for them.”

The title is Richmond Athletic’s third out of a possible four this year, with its top team winning the on-going first division.
