The race for the region’s top football title will come down to the wire after an injury-time goal by Tahuna FC stunned league-leaders Richmond Athletic at Jubilee Park on Saturday.

Holding a 3-1 advantage with ten minutes remaining, Richmond looked as if they’d done enough to keep the four point lead at the top of the Nelson Bays Football first division table.

But two goal-mouth scrambles in the final minutes drew Tahuna level, giving each team a point from the result.

That puts Richmond on 45 points at the top of the table. But a 6-1 win for FC Nelson over Wakefield has bumped the city club to 43 points, within striking distance of Richmond, with three rounds still to play.

Nelson College remain in third place with Tahuna FC in fourth.
