FRIDAY

  • Celebrate Christmas and the last Wave Rave of 2016 at the Richmond Aquatic Centre’s Wave Rave Christmas Party from 7-9pm tonight. With games, prizes, music, waves and inflatables, it’s sure to be a great night and entry is only $5 if you bring along a gift or non-perishable food item for a family in need this Christmas. Wave Rave is for 8-14 year olds but under 8’s are welcome if accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
  • Nelson’s talented performers will be on show tonight at Theatre Royal from 7pm for ‘Applause’ a show featuring Classical Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Jazz numbers. Following a successful year with performances throughout NZ, and an exciting dance tour to LA and Las Vegas, the dancers are excited to showcase their talents. SATURDAY

  • Sport Tasman’s Sandcastle Building Competition is on. Get creative this summer by building a sandcastle at any of Nelson’s beaches, snapping a photo and submitting the entry online to be in to win! Click Here for a rules sheet and to register and make sure you submit your entry before February 1.
  • Founders Heritage Park is holding a mini Summer Reads Book Fair in the Windmill from Saturday, December 10 through to Sunday, January 15. With a great selection of fiction and magazines to take on holiday and new books being added daily, the book fair runs from 10am-4.30pm with free entry to Windmill.
  • The magical Lantern Celebration is set to light up Nelson on Saturday from 7-10pm. The celebrations begin as you make your way up the hill from the Botanical Reserve to the Centre of New Zealand, discovering a magical world of installations and performances. Once at the top, listen to some fantastic music and watch the sun set before heading back down using your lanterns. The theme is ‘Journey to the Stars’ so get creating and make yourself a homemade lantern. If the weather is bad on Sat 17 Dec, the Lantern Celebration will be postponed to Sunday, December 18.

 

SUNDAY

  • On Sunday night, the serene Washbourn Gardens will host Richmond’s Carols by Candlelight where all your favourite Christmas tunes will be sung and celebrated in true festive spirit. Pack a picnic, bring some warm clothing and come along to share in the Christmas tradition. The preshow entertainment will start at 6:30pm with carols from 8-10pm and candles are available to purchase for a gold coin.
