Nelson City Councillor Matt Lawrey announced today that he is seeking Green Party candidacy in the Nelson electorate for next year’s General Election.

“The Green Party wants to create a country where every child can thrive and where our beautiful natural environment is treasured and protected. That’s the kind of country I want too, and I think many Nelsonians feel the same,” says Matt.

“I believe most Kiwis think a fairer, smarter, greener New Zealand would be better for everyone and I want to be a part of making that happen.

Matt says he decided to put his hand up after thinking about it long and hard and being encouraged to stand by several people.

“The Green Party has a democratic process for selecting candidates and there may be others who seek the nomination but, if I’m chosen, it will be a real honour to represent the Greens in the community I love.”

The Nelson branch of the Green Party will hold its candidate selection meeting on January 16 next year.
