The Speights Ale House International Wood Chopping event is on today.
Over 50 competitors are taking part including members of the Nelson Axemens Club, axemen from around the country and as far as Canada and Australia.
The event was started in order to support the Blenheim competition, this year held on Saturday, November 5.
Axemen now use the events as a circuit leading up to the major wood choping event of the year at the Canterbury A&P Show.
Competition will be running outside Speights Ale House today until 4pm.
