Two local events have been postponed following Monday’s colossal earthquake.

Both the Governor General’s three-day visit and Chartered Accountants’ regional conference has been postponed to next year.

Governor General, Dame Patsy Reddy who was planning to visit the region alongside Sir David Gascoigne this week, will now be visiting sometime in the New Year.

Government House Official Secretary Gregory Baughen says with emergency efforts in the upper South Island still taking place, the timing was not right for a regional visit.

The visit was set to be the first regional visit by Dame Patsy since she began her term at the end of August.

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand were to hold their 2016 Nelson Marlborough Regional Conference at the Rutherford Hotel tomorrow night but have issued a statement saying they will also be postponing until next year.

A new date has not yet been confirmed for the key Nelson Marlborough business conference and the local business leaders locked in to speak at the event such as Chris Roberts, John Palmer and Josh Scott have not been confirmed for the postponed event.
