Tasman United twice came back from a goal down to draw 2-2 with Canterbury United in the Stirling Sports New Zealand Football Premiership debut at Christchurch’s English Park today.
Nelson-born striker Alex Ridsdale scored Tasman United’s first goal in the competition with a long range effort.
His 25-yard shot in the 43rd minute was an early equaliser after the home team had opened the scoring just two minutes earlier when Andre de Jong who managed to scramble in the goal from a flick on header.
Aaron Clapham despatched a penalty in the 68th minute to restore a one goal advantage for Canterbury United.
Tasman United certainly had their moments in the game but were n the receiving end of a few yellow cards for challenges in the second half.
Tasman refused to go with the script and again leveled the scores through an 81st minute penalty from Paul Ifill which the veteran tucked away in the bottom left corner.
Canterbury began to control the latter stages of the game and hit the post with a shot deep into injury time but Tasman United hung on for a point.
