Ballet fans will be delighted following the announcement of a Royal New Zealand Ballet show in Nelson next year.

On Monday, the RNZB released their 2017 show line up which includes a larger regional tour, with 70 performances in 16 centres, one of which will be Nelson’s Theatre Royal.

The company’s legendary regional touring programme, Tutus on Tour will grace the Nelson stage on Wednesday, March 1, with tickets on sale from the first of December.

Executive Director Frances Turner says she is thrilled the company will visit even more New Zealand venues in 2017.

“It’s a big and beautiful year which will take the incredible artists of the RNZB around New Zealand for 70 performances in 16 cities and towns. We are proud to be taking the highest quality art to the widest possible audience.”

Working in partnership with their Community and Education programme, Tutus on Tour 2017 will take dancers from the RNZB into seven regional centres, with performances tailor-made for smaller venues, and suitable for all ages.

As the Nelson programme is on a weekday, local schools will have the opportunity to get up close to the RNZB during the day with Ballet in a Box: observing the dancers’ daily warm up, watching them perform brief works, and then exploring their world via a Q&A session.

In the evening, the dancers will present a performance of classic and contemporary repertoire, in full costume.
