A blockage caused by rags in the sewer system at the Annesbrook Drive and Douglas Road intersection saw a small sewage overflow at 9pm last night.
An estimated 10m3 of effluent was potentially discharged into Jenkins Stream, flowing into the Haven via the Poormans/Jenkin streams confluence at the airport/Monaco.
The overflow occurred around the peak of the evening’s high tide cycle, with the discharge being carried out to the Haven on the outgoing tide.
High tide in Nelson has re-occurred at 11am this morning.
Due to the small nature of the spill, a water contact ban is not required. However Council reminds the public that shellfish should not be collected from the Haven at any time.
