Final Nelson City Council Votes

With the addition of special votes, several candidates

Rachel Reese rose to 11,364 votes, solidifying her already strong mayoral lead with 753 extra votes while Pete Rainey rose to 5,050 votes gaining an extra 550 votes.

Graeme O’Brien rose to 1871 and Richard Osmaston increased to 422 votes.

Council candidates also received large increases during the final count.

Tim Skinner received 8838 votes, Brian McGurk got 8701, and first-timer Mike Rutledge rose to 8624.

Matt Lawrey who previously had 7354 votes to Paul Matheson’s 7442, has overtaken Paul with a final count of 8141, 240 votes ahead of Paul’s final count.

Gaile Noonan rose to 7,835, ahead of Bill Dahlberg on 7619, and Luke Acland on 7321.

With 7050, Stuart Walker overtook Ian Barker who received 7010.

Mel Courtney increased to 6743 but the big story of the day was the tussle for the final spot on council.

In a crushing vote shift, Trudie Brand who was originally named as the twelfth councillor with 6242 votes has lost her spot to Kate Fulton who originally received 6101 votes.

Kate rose to 6719 with the inclusion of the special votes, overtaking Trudie who received a final count of 6658.

The other candidates that missed out are as follows:

Kindra Douglas 6426, Eric Davy 6394; Ruth Copeland 5963; Derek Shaw 5940; Cindy Batt 5904; Graeme O’Brien 5521; Kevin Gardener 5231; Cynthia McConville 5190; Derek Nees 4748; Stephen Alder 4671; Heather Bryant 4208; Rosina Cornelissen 2291; Glen Daikee 2269; Sunny Daly 2173; and Robbie Kavanagh 1906.

 

Final Tasman District Council Votes

Unlike Nelson, despite the slight increase or decrease of votes received across the board for all candidates there has been no change in representation on the Council from the earlier preliminary count.

The new Council for the 2016 Triennium will be sworn in 9.30am 20 October at the Tasman District Council Chambers in Richmond.

Mayor once again, received an extra 646 votes rising to a total of 6838, remaining above Kit Maling with 5761 and Maxwell Clark with 5142.

The Golden Bay Ward vacancies still go to Sue Brown and Paul Sangster with final counts of 1089 and 1074 respectively.

In the Moutere-Waimea Ward, Tim King has 2671 votes, Anne Turley 2446 and Dean McNamara 1994.

While Graeme Stradling missed out receiving 1838, Andrew Gould 1447, Gary Watson 1030 and Richard Osmaston 706.

The Motueka Ward was won by David Ogilvie with 2409, Peter Canton 2310 and Paul Hawkes 2089.

The unsuccessful Barry Dowler and Martin Lucas received 2049 and 1438 respectively.

The Richmond ward will be represented by Dana Wensley with 3446, Trevor Tuffnell 3419, Kit Maling 3101 and Mark Greening 2654.

Michael Higgins was unsuccessful with 2,500, Wayne Mackey got 2,122, Murray Dawson 1,760 and Dennis Gibbs 1162.
Stuart Bryant was elected unopposed as the Lakes/Murchison Ward councillor and the final voter return was 49.4%, a total of 18,161 votes.
