FRIDAY

  • New Zealand’s largest skydiving event is here, Good Vibes 2016 is hosted annually at Skydive Abel Tasman, Motueka and in its 14th year has around 70 participants. Come jump and play in the skies with us or just have fun watching! The event runs from September 22–25 from sunrise to sunset.   • Explore Nelson Tasman walkway’s and reserves for free with the Sport Tasman Spring Explorer! This event runs until November 30 and is family friendly, with clues prizes to win. There are 13 different walks to choose from, register online to receive all information and quiz sheets. Contact Sport Tasman [email protected] or phone 03 546 7910.
  • Bring the clan down to the Motueka Airport for a Family Fireworks tonight from 7pm. As part of New Zealand’s biggest skydiving event, the display will be set to heart-pounding music and is not to be missed.
  • Head down to the Richmond Aquatic & Fitness Centre for a Jungle Pool Party like no other to celebrate the end of the term. Families and 8-14-year-olds are invited to come dressed in Jungle theme for a night of fun games, prizes, waves, the Aquarun, music and so much more between 7pm and 9pm. The Cafe will be open keep you keeping you energised with heaps of with Jungle Juice and Treats. For more information, call Richmond Aquatic Centre on 543 9755, entry is $10 per person.

 

SATURDAY

  • The Harley Davidson Owners Group are holding their annual rally to raise funds for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter on Saturday. The group will be gathering at 10am at the helicopter hanger on the way to the airport and will plan to leave around 11am. The ride will go out towards Upper Moutere with lunch planned at Tapawera.
  • Calling all kings and queens to the rosy house of Broadgreen! Spring Kings, Summer Queens is a free, garden inspired treasure hunt at Broadgreen Historic House on Nayland Rd, running every day of the school holidays. The treasure hunt is open 11am to 3pm from Saturday 24th September to Friday 30th September and for the second week of the school holidays will run from 10.30am to 4.30pm  from Saturday 1st October to Sunday 9th October. The hunt is free to locals and under 5-year-olds, adult and senior visitors are $5 while visiting students between 5 and 17 years are $1.
  • The Wellington Phoenix are coming to town, don’t miss your chance to see New Zealand’s only professional football team in action as they take on two-time Hyundai A-League Premiers the Central Coast Mariners at Trafalgar Park on Saturday 24th September 2016, 4.00pm. The match is preceded by Tasman United taking on the Wellington Phoenix Premiers at 1.15pm with gates opening at 11.45am, tickets available from Ticketek Here.
  • Head to St Joseph’s Hall on Saturday night for the Ceroc Spring Fling Tea Dance. Warm up with some funky partner dancing from 6.30-9pm all you need is yourself, $6 for a ticket at the door and a plate of food to share, drinks are provided.
  • The Sirens of Smash are back for a hard-hitting game against Hawke’s Bay team, the Bay City Rollers. Come along  to the Nelson Roller Skating Rink and cheer on your favourite team, doors open at 6pm with the game beginning at 7pm. Tickets and EFTPOS are available at the door, adults are $5, children are $2 and a family is $10. Food and an R18 bar will also be available.
  • The Paul Madsen Superstar Show is here in Nelson. Head to The Playhouse Cafe to hear Paul Madsen sing all your favourites from Queen to the Beegees and CCR to The Eagles. Doors open at 6pm, and the show runs from 8pm with $25 tickets from The Playhouse Cafe website or phone 035402985, food options available.

 

SUNDAY

  • The Mapua Makers Market is on from 10am to 3pm at the Mapua Community Hall. The contemporary craft fair features unique and affordable handcrafted items from locals and a new Epicurean Artisan Corner featuring handmade food products. Explore the market, and bring a picnic or stop in for some coffee and slice The Java Hut and relax after a great shopping experience.
  • Around 20 riders will be taking part in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, an international fundraising ride for Prostate Cancer on Sunday morning. Meeting at Founders Park around 10am dressed up in suits and ties and riding older bikes, the gentlemen will be leaving around 11am and heading to Richmond for lunch at The Stables.
  • Nelson has been named City of The Year so Tahunanui Community Centre, Burrell Park Community Gardens, Neighbourhood Support and Neighbours Day Aotearoa are getting together to celebrate. Spring Fest will include a delicious free lunch, seed planting, garden crafts, mini workshops, quiz and prizes from 12pm – 3pm at Burrell Park.   • Come to The City Club (Maitai Bowling Club) on Kinzett Terrace for the Dawnbreakers Fishing Club Open Day. Running from 3pm-5pm upstairs above the gym, the Open Day is a chance to chat to committee members, collect your membership cards and info for the upcoming season. Dawnbreakers Fishing Club is a family friendly, well-established club, who like to socialise with other fish minded people, share techniques, and compete in a seasonal competition for great prizes. Prizes include Top Boat Points, Overall Club Champion, Ladies and Junior Divisions. Our season commences 1 October and runs to 31st May 2017 with a prize giving in June.
