Wakatu residents get dirty water

Residents on Annesbrook Drive and Douglas Road got a surprise when they turned their taps on earlier this week.

Water was turned off to the area on Tuesday to urgently repair a water leak with several residents complained about having “cloudy” and “silty” water prior to the repair.

The leak was traced to a plumbing fitting feeding an isolator outside 5 Douglas Rd.

A council spokesperson says ferrule fittings can and do fail for any number of reasons, including corrosion or pipe movement and the only solution is replacement but residents shouldn’t be concerned.

“Residents can rest assured Council has systems in place to monitor water quality and testing is increased in areas where discoloured water is reported to ensure that it is always safe to drink.”

A contractor was on site yesterday flushing the pipes to eliminate the discoloured water.
