The boy from Stoke is returning home as a Paralympic champion.

Paralympic runner Liam Malone will be celebrated at his homecoming on Saturday, October 8 and his local supporters are expected to fill the streets.

The welcome home celebrations will kick off at noon in front of Nelson’s church steps where Liam will be presented with the Key to the City and will be available for autographs and selfies.

“Liam Malone’s achievements at the Rio Paralympics in winning two gold medals and a silver are extraordinary and up there with Nelson’s greatest ever sports achievements,” says Nelson MP Nick Smith.

“We want to celebrate Liam’s success and provide an opportunity for Nelson to express our pride in his achievements, while Liam wants to take the opportunity to thank Nelson for their support.”

Mayor Rachel Reese says Nelson’s imagination has been captured by Liam’s stunning success.

“Liam has an amazing story and is a great ambassador for our city and country.

“We invite Nelson to come out and show their support and pride in Liam’s achievement.  This is not just about Liam but celebrating that people with disabilities can conquer the world.”
