There may not be cherry trees full of blossoms, but Miyazu Japanese Gardens is still hosting a great Cherry Blossom Festival. The annual event celebrates the 40 years relationship between Nelson and it’s Japanese sister city Miyazu.

The gardens are full of Japanese food stalls, as well as performances by the Taiko drummers, Japanese puppeteer Akiko Miyamoto, a performance by the Nelson Festival Choir and calligraphy by New Zealand’s only Japanese Grand Master Calligrapher, Akiko Crowther.

The event finishes at 2.30pm today.
