A resource consent has been granted to Caltex Bishopdale owner Kyle Lightfoot to build a petrol station on the corner of Champion Rd and Salisbury Rd, adjacent to the Richmond Aquatic Centre.
Kyle lodged the consent in May and it was approved by the Tasman District Council in July. Nelson company Coman Holdings Limited owns the 5260 square metre site at 149 Salisbury Rd after purchasing it from the council last year.
Kyle says the petrol station will be constructed as soon as possible although can’t put a time-line on the project because there were too many variables to still consider.
“We still have to go through the building consent process and then it will be Christmas so I can’t say when we will start,” Kyle says.”But we want to build it as soon as we possibly can.”
Although the land is zoned for tourism and cannot be used for residential development, council approved the consent because the application was for the same area of land that had a consent granted for commercial development in 2014. It was considered that a petrol station would not result in any additional adverse effects on the tourist services zone.
