Drivers intending to travel down Waimea Road can expect more delays.
From 7am next Monday, the southbound lane (heading to Richmond) of Waimea Road will be closed and traffic will detour via Rutherford and Van Diemen Streets.
Northbound (heading to Nelson CBD) traffic will not be affected initially but Waimea Road will need to be fully closed for two nights during this time. In this case, northbound traffic will also detour via Van Diemen Street and Rutherford Street, for those short periods.
Van Diemen Street will be closed at the Ngatitama Street intersection to allow southbound traffic to keep moving.
This detour is for the construction of an underground stormwater chamber in Waimea Road.
Access for residents and businesses will still be available and the Challenge Service station will stay open for business with access from Van Diemen Street.
Temporary parking restrictions will also be in place along the closed area, including sections of Rutherford, Van Diemen, Hampden and Ngatitama Streets.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journey, especially at peak times, or to choose another route if possible.
