A scintillating first half from Waimea Combined fullback Matthew Stevenson helped his team to a bonus point 34-25 win over St Andrews College in the UC Championship secondary school rugby competition.

Waimea led 26-13 at halftime but had to withstand a number of St Andrews’attacks in the second half.

A late penalty ensured the team grabbed one of its biggest victories of the season while celebrating No and captain Jaremy Lordan’s 50th game in Waimea colours.

Nelson College have the weekend off but will play Christ’s College, in Christchurch, on Monday.
