After more than 3000km of riding in the 2016 Tour de France, Nelson rider George Bennett is 52nd..
George finished 117th on today’s 184km 17th stage between Berne and Finhaut-Emosson.
The stage claimed fellow Kiwi Shane Archbold who broke his pelvis in a crash but still managed to finish the stage before pulling out of the remainder of the event.
George saw the crash unfold and took to Twitter to praise Shane’s tenacity in finishing the day.
“Had a front row seat of @Theflyingmullet hitting a wall at @80kph, v/ scary seeing a mate hit the deck so hard, can’t believe he finished.”
“From what I saw being on his wheel, it’s lucky it’s “only” a broken pelvis, not many guys would get back on their bikes. Respect brother.”
There are three more stages remaiing as well as the last day ceremonial ride into Paris.
