You only have to look out your window to know that its raining but Metservice has issued a Severe Weather Watch for many places around the country including Nelson.
The watch predicts heavy rain and strong gales across the country and Metservice says while one wet front moves away another is coming to take it’s place.
“A front currently delivering heavy rain to the west of the South Island should move onto the North Island overnight tonight and away to the east tomorrow. Meanwhile, another front over the Tasman Sea moves onto the South Island Friday morning, and onto the North Island Friday evening, bringing another burst of heavy rain, and severe northwest gales in exposed places.”
Rain may approach short term warning criteria for the Nelson and Richmond ranges today and Nelsonians are advised to stay up to date with forecasts in case this is upgraded to a warning.
If you’re heading towards the Buller ranges, drive safe and expect heavy rain as the watch has been upgraded to a warning.
This watch will be reviewed before 9pm tonight.
