Richmond have lost the lead in the Nelson Bays football competition thanks to a 4-2 loss to Marlborough Mariners at Jubilee Park today.

Having started the season with six wins in a row, Richmond have gone three weeks without a victory and have been overtaken by Suburbs Seals, who won 2-0 over Nelson College First XI

The loss is also a poor lead up to Richmond’s Chatham Cup showdown against Universities in Christchurch.

Marlborough scored three goals in as many minutes late in the first half to change the course of the match.

They added a fourth moments after the break and a visibly dejected and frustrated Richmond had no way back.

They did pull two late goals back to offer slim hopes of earning a draw with 20 minutes to play but that’s as good as it got.
