Nelson cyclist George Bennett is on his team Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s long-short list for the upcoming 103rd edition of the Tour de France.
The team will gradually cut this list down to its nine participants ahead of the race start in Mont-Saint-Michel on Saturday, July 2. Team technical director Nico Verhoeven says the team’s last preparations are being completed in three stage races, the Tour de Suisse, Criterium du Dauphiné and Ster ZLM Toer.
George improved his chances of selection when he was the only Team LottoNL-Jumbo rider able to finish in the first group during the third stage of the Criterium du Dauphiné on June 9. George finished 35th in the group and was 55th going into Saturday’s sixth stage.
The final nine riders will be named several days before the Dutch national championships to be held a week before the start of the Tour de France.
