Nelson’s Trafalgar Park will host an A-League preseason match between the Wellington Phoenix and Central Coast Mariners on September 24.
It will be the first time the Phoenix have played in Nelson and the day will also see Tasman’s new national league team, Tasman United play its first preseason game against fellow national league team Wellington Phoenix Reserves.
The Tasman United game starts at 1.15pm with the A-League preseason game beginning at 4pm.
Tickets go on sale for the event named ‘The Battle of Trafalgar II’ this Saturday at 12pm through Ticketek.
One of the organisers Aldo MIccio says having the Phoenix come to Nelson is something the region has wanted for a long time.
“The timing for this couldn’t be better given how football is exploding in the region.
“We’ve wanted the Phoenix to come for a long time and we have the date we wanted with a national 10 and 11-year-old tournament being played in Nelson at the same time.
“It’s great to see that so many young footballers in Nelson will get the chance to be up close with their idols and to have Tasman United’s first preseason game on the same day means we have a double-header.”
