Nelson’s discoloured water should return to normal following the end of the Maitai Dam water trial.

The trial has been identified as the potential cause of recent water discolouration experienced by local households and businesses.

The council are apologising for any dissatisfaction that residents have experienced and say the trial will be stopped on Sunday, May 15.

Despite the unexpected discolouration, the water has been continually tested, and is completely safe to drink.

The trial was undertaken to determine if the water from the Maitai Dam could be used as the sole water supply for the city in times of extreme drought, and if in doing so, whether the health of the Maitai River would improve.
