The fire that ravaged Motueka’s Abel Glass on Wednesday night is still being investigated.
Motueka Volunteer Fire Brigade’s Chief Fire Officer Mike Riddell says the fire investigator was on site all day yesterday and is still there today.
Mike says they know nothing about what caused the fire as yet.
“It’s a big building and there was quite a bit of devastation, it’s quite a process but no, there’s nothing sticking out the front of anybody at the moment.”
Over forty fire fighters from Motueka, Kaiteriteri, Mapua, Upper Moutere, Richmond and the Command Unit from Nelson responded to the blaze at 9.18pm on Wednesday.
Mike says the fire is not being treated as suspicious but has left the building “a total write off”.
“Unfortunately the building is a total loss, they’ll have to completely clear the lot after the investigation is complete.”
