A two-car collision at the roundabout between the Richmond Deviation and Whakatu Dr on Tuesday afternoon “could have been a lot worse” with two of the three people involved only suffering minor injuries.
The two cars collided at around 1.30pm after one of the cars appeared to fail to give way, Constable Jamie White of the Nelson Police says. He says one car was shunted through a fence into a paddock while the second car hit a light pole resulting in the two occupants receiving minor injuries – the driver of the second car was the sole occupant and appeared to be uninjured.
“It looks like the driver turning left and heading south failed to give way and collided with the car coming straight through (the roundabout),” Jamie says. “They were fortunate only to suffer minor injuries – it could have been a lot worse.”
Police closed the Richmond Deviation to one lane for southbound traffic for a time while police and fire fighters attended the incident.
