New data released from New Zealand Police has revealed Nelson’s most burgled suburbs, with the city centre, Tahunanui and Stoke being the worst hit areas.

Tahunanui Hills and the Nelson Airport area were also within the top eight, making the Tahunanui area one the most burgled places in Nelson.

most burgled suburbsAn interactive map on the New Zealand Herald website shows each reported burglary that has occurred in the region in the eighteen month period between July 2014 and December 2015.

The data gives a breakdown to mesh block level, the smallest geographic unit by which government agencies aggregate data.

Nelson Bays Area Commander Inspector Matt Arnold-Kelly says he is yet to see the data, but suggests it fits in with recent trends.

“Tahunanui would definitely fit in with the trends we’ve seen in that time period,” he says.

“But different suburbs go through trends at different times.”

Trafalgar/city centre had the most burglaries at 69, followed by the Isel Park area at 68 and Tahunanui at 63. Glenduan had the lowest number of burglaries at only two, followed by Clifton, at eight.
