Nelson City Council have elected a chair for the newly established Nelson Regional Development Agency (NRDA).

John Palmer was appointed as NRDA’s first Chair on Friday.

John currently chairs the NRDA Establishment Board which has made rapid progress in the transition of economic development services to the NRDA. He brings with him significant leadership experience and knowledge in company governance, and is encouraging other directors or aspiring directors to take the opportunity to work alongside him to help contribute to the sustainable economic development of the Nelson region.

“I’m enthusiastic about what the new board and the merged company can do to tighten focus on things that give real impetus to improving the whole regional economy. I also see an opportunity for younger people who are passionate about the Nelson region to bring that energy to the board table” says John.

Mayor Rachel Reese recognises the value that Mr Palmer brings to the new board.

“We are very fortunate to have John’s commitment and enthusiasm behind this new company. John shares my passion for making our region an even better place to live, work, invest and do business in. John is an outstanding chairman who has led some of New Zealand’s crucial transformational changes. I’m sure both aspiring and established directors will enjoy his inclusive style.”

Applications for the board close on 17 March. To apply or view the position description go to www.jacksonstone.co.nz or call Darryl Templeman or Richard Stone on 04 550 8000.
