The Nelson Police Station opened it’s doors to the public yesterday morning.
The open day saw hundreds of families lining up to go into the jail cells, challenge themselves on the Police obstace course, hop into police cars and fire trucks, check out the police taser, riot gear, and guns, watch firemen rip open a car, meet Pyro the Police dog and many more activities.
Police Communications Manager, Barbara Dunn says the day was a hit.
“It went fantastic, it was a huge success from our perspective, with lots of engagement, lots of questions lots of people trying things out and getting information.”
“The public really enjoyed it, we’ve had enormous feedback from people on the day, coming up and chatting to us and via social media.”
Barbara says they’re really chuffed that people have come up and said they loved the way their staff interacted with them.
