An electrical fire in a switch box on Queen St sparked a swift response from two crews and fire appliances from the Richmond Volunteer Fire Brigade on Wednesday afternoon.
Queen St was closed on one lane for about 40 minutes from 3pm after retailers noticed smoke coming from the switchbox and called 111. Fire fighters in two fire appliances attended the fire which was quickly extinguished.
Captivation store owner Lea Lock says she smelled smoke and went outside to see where it was coming from couldn’t identify the source. A neighbouring retailer then came into her store and told her the switch box was on fire so Lea called 111.
Fire fighter Nathan Freeman says they didn’t know what caused the fire although “electrical switch boxes did catch fire from time to time”
