Police car rides, fingerprinting and taser demonstrations will be just a few of the things on offer this Sunday as part of Nelson Police Station’s open day.

The open day is from 10am to 2pm and will give the public a taste of how modern day policing works.

Senior Sergeant Shane Miles says that it’s a great opportunity for Nelson Police to interact with the public in a relaxed, stress-free environment. “There will be lots of hands-on stuff, and it’s really good fun. Kids love to try on the body armour, and the police car rides are also popular.”

The public can also meet police dogs, tour the station and cell block, see some search and rescue winching in action and check out the booze bus, prison truck, and an AOS command vehicle.

As part of the open day, the police will be giving away toy police puppies to deserving people. Shane says people can be nominated through their Facebook page, or by post to Police Puppies Private Bag 39 Nelson 7042.
