Nelson Public Libraries’ will be open for longer from this Monday.

Elma Turner Library will be open for an extra 5 hours a week, while Stoke Library will add an extra 2.5 hours to its hours. There will be no changes to Nightingale Library Memorial.

Nelson City Council libraries and heritage manager Ian Littleworth says these extensions are in line with what the community have asked for.

“Our libraries are a community space, open to everyone, and extending our opening hours ensures more accessibility for those wanting to explore all that our libraries have to offer.

“It’s no secret that Nelsonians really enjoy spending time at their local library. Nelson Public Libraries has one of the highest membership rates per head of population, at over 80 per cent, and we also borrow almost twice as many library items as borrowers from other areas in New Zealand.”
