Apparently, the Prime Minister John Key is a big a fan of Pic’s Peanut Butter.

So that’s why Nelson MP Nick Smith arranged for John to visit of Pic’s Wakatu Estate factory when he was in Nelson on Thursday.

“I knew the Prime Minister was a fan so I organised the visit here,” Nick says. “When I told him, he said ‘that’s where they make that peanut butter’ – he was very excited about it.

“But I also wanted to bring him here because Pic’s is a fantastic business that tells the story of New Zealanders taking opportunities in places where you don’t usually expect to find them. I remember visiting Pic’s when he was running his business out of his garage and now he employs 40 staff.

“A lot of people say you can’t take on the big corporates but Pic has done it with his dynamism, a great product and staff, and slightly arty, out-there marketing. It’ a real Nelson success story.”

John talked to staff at Pic’s and signed a jar of Pic’s Peanut Butter he personally filled labeling it ‘Johns’s and Pic’s Peanut Butter’. He had earlier spoken at the Aquaculture New Zealand annual conference during his visit to Nelson.
