Nelsonians can expect more rain tomorrow afternoon with the potential for heavy falls.
A severe weather watch is in force for the Nelson Ranges where heavy northeasterly rain is forcast.
A front in the Tasman Sea is expected to approach New Zealand today and move across the country tomorrow. The heaviest falls are initially expected around Nelson, Westland, and the ranges of northern Fiordland.
The front will be preceded by northeast gales.
Met service are advising people to stay up to date with the latest forecasts, as parts of this watch are likely to be upgraded to a warning.
NZTA say winter conditions on the roads around the region should ease today.
A severe weather warning is now in place.
Northeasterly rain is expected from this afternoon and to set in overnight. In the 24 hours from midnight Thursday to midnight Friday, expect 90 to 110mm about high ground and 30 to 50mm near the coast.
Peak intensities if 20 to 25mm/hr over the ranges from about 3pm to 9pm Friday.
