Only fourteen submissions have been received by the Nelson City Council on the draft Brook Recreation Reserve Management Plan.
The draft management plan outlines how the reserve area that includes the Brook Camp could be used in the future, what needs protection on the site and how the setting could best serve Nelsonians and visitors to the region.
Feedback from the community and key stakeholders earlier in the year has guided the development of the draft plan. Council has indicated a preference for the site that would allow for a recreation area, camping, education facilities and tourism ventures to be pursued in the future.
Council are encouraging people to submit on the draft Brook Recreation Reserve Management Plan before consultation closes on Monday August 17 at 5pm.
A hearing panel is due to hear from those people who indicate they wish to speak to their submission on Wednesday 2 September. The panel will deliberate about the submissions at a public meeting on 22 September and Council is due to make its final decision based on the hearing panel’s recommendation at its meeting on 15 October.
The 100-page draft plan and summary is available to view at the Council’s Customer Service Centre and Libraries, along with submission forms.
