Talent vibrated through the theatre royal last night as bands and soloists from around the region competed in the Nelson heats of the 2015 Smokefree Rockquest.

Nelson College for Boys pupils Bowyne and Rigel Blanchet came second place at last year’s regional finals with their band, Fire Without Permit. Last year they joined up with rival baånd Slim Conviction to form Vanguard with Garin College’s Jake Robinson and Nayland’s Simon Wynne Jones.

They are the only band to compete in the competition with members from different school.

Nelson Live caught up with the band at their usual haunt after performing their song Here I Go to find out what it takes to compete in the 2015 Rockquest.
