The Nelson Suburban Club has seen a 24 per cent rise in membership figures since September 2014.

At the end of last year a new executive committee and finance management committee was appointed, and with this election came a renewed drive to increase the club’s membership numbers.

General Manager, Rob Finlayson, says, “The key to a successful and sustainable club has always been in increasing our membership base and I’m really pleased with the steady growth we’ve achieved since September last year.

“What makes it even better is the wider cross section of membership that we have attracted in terms of age and gender demographic.”

Rob puts this down to recently hosted events at the club that will no doubt have attracted female members such as the International Women’s Day Charity High Tea, together with some of the recent acts that have used the Suburban Club as a venue, Jimi Jackson, as an example.

“We’ve been getting fresh faces through the door, who see what great facilities we have here, and it has translated into membership growth.”

The increased membership numbers comes on the back of a reported $221,000 profit for the 2014 financial year. Club Treasurer, Ben Douglas, confirms that the club is on track and within budgeted forecasts to date this year.

The Nelson Suburban Club is continuing to offer a special $25 joining fee until the end of May.
