Star and Garter Waimea Old Boys will be aiming to maintain the momentum they gained in the second half of last week’s 35-13 win against Stoke when they play Nelson their Tasman Trophy and Car Company Nelson Bays division one club rugby game at Jubilee Park on Saturday.

Waimea Old Boys produced a strong second half performance, scoring four tries to finally dispatch a tenacious Stoke and record their fourth successive win. But it was far from a perfect display with coach Mark Milne saying they lost too much possession in a muddling first half before tightening up in the second.

“Stoke came to play in the first half but we also failed to hold onto the ball. We’d do a lot of good stuff and then we’d lose the ball so we need to improve on that this Saturday.

“I don’t know why we didn’t get it right. It was probably just a mental thing so we have put a few things in front of the guys to focus for this week.”

Mark says he was pleased with the way first five eighth Rohan Saifoloi “ran our game” while openside flanker Sam Winslow “had a strong game”.

“Sam had glandular fever last year so he didn’t really get going. He’s a very talented player so it’s pleasing to see him starting to play some very good rugby.”

Mark says the team is looking forward to playing at home this Saturday. The game kicks off at 3.15pm.
Waimea Old Boys Senior B won last Saturday’s game against Stoke 45-3. They play Nelson Senior B this Saturday with kick off timed for 1.15pm
