Driving past Neale Park today you may notice some work going on at the Grove Station end of the Heritage Railway Line.

The Nelson Railway Society are replacing the fouling point on their historic line. The point is the area where the engine parts from the carriage and shifts onto another piece of rail in order to link up again at the other end.

Longtime society member, Bob Murray says they noticed a crack in the track which means replacing a whole section out of the line.

“The track split about a week ago. We’re still running but we have to cut the trip a few metres short at the moment,” he says.

“Hopefully we should be finished in a couple of weeks.”

Bob is assisted in laying the new track by community workers.
