The Whakatu Hotel veranda has been damaged and has the potential to collapse, says Nelson City Council.

Council staff are investigating the damage although the area is yet to be cordoned off.
Council are advising pedestrians to cross the street to a safer location to navigate the corner of Bridge and Collingwood Streets.
Co-Owner, Margaret Monopoli says she believes the damage is due to the old age of the building. She says all the commotion has caused an increase in customer numbers to the bar.
